Happy New Moon in Taurus and happy May fellow witches! I don’t know about you, but I felt super bogged down last moon cycle – overwhelmed, overworked, and exhausted. There was a general feeling of being pulled in too many directions and being spread too thin. Between multiple work crises, no internet for over a day, a sick baby, social obligations, and just keeping up on housework it’s time to press pause and get my head on right again.
I’m excited about this Taurus new moon as it’s going to be a very grounding moon. It’s going to help us focus on getting the home and business in order; not necessarily starting big new projects. We’ll explore which planets we can thank for the slowdown in a bit.
It’s also important to look at your birth chart to see what house this new moon will impact. You’ll want to look at that particular house to see where you need to dig in and change it up. For example, Taurus is in my 10th house which rules all things career and what drives me in creating my “dream job.” This moon cycle, I should expect to look at my career-driven objectives and start rehashing, rethinking, and reorganizing priorities. Where does Taurus fall in your astrological chart? You can explore more here!
Taurus and Venus
As we discussed last month with the full moon in Libra, Venus’s position and sign will play a big part during this new moon; as Venus also rules Taurus. Venus is still cruising in Aries but will go into Taurus on May 15th. In the meantime, we should still expect to be careful with money and relationships and to not let our tempers run too hot. With the moon being in the sign of the grounded, stubborn bull I think that our moods will reign in a bit; but it’s still not the time to make impulsive money or love decisions.
Taurus and Uranus
Uranus has been in Taurus since March 2019, but you will be acutely feeling its influence the next few days as well! Uranus is the planet of innovation, revolution, and invention. With the moon and Uranus meeting up in Taurus, expect great change to happen involving reevaluation and to release what is holding you back. This is where our theme of breaking free and preparing for the future comes in.
Uranus is actually going to be working with Taurus until 2026 so you have quite a bit of time working with this groundbreaking energy. If you want to harness the power of radical change, focus on working with this planetary transit any day the moon is in Taurus. The moon changes signs every 2.5 days so you have plenty of opportunities!
New Moon in Taurus Correspondences
Let’s analyze each correspondence on how it relates to this new moon.
crystals & stones
Emerald – This is the birthstone of May and if you can get your hands on some, very appropriate for this new moon. Emeralds are the stone of Venus and attract or help maintain abundant love and are also known to seek the truth.
Onyx – This agate aids in facing fears, so why not use it to help you face yours? Really dig deep this new moon and banish what isn’t serving you or working positively for you. Habits, routines, substances, etc.
Salt – The ultimate Earth element and the ultimate practical, jack of all trades.
Mauve – This subdued purple is calming, dignified, and elegant which is perfect for the low key luxurious Taurus. Utilize mauve this moon cycle to envoke compassion.
Forest Green – Green invokes nature, the environment, and all things living so it’s a natural color choice (hehe see what I did) for this Taurus moon.
Black – We’ll be harnessing black’s strength and power this new moon. We’re making big changes in our lives and we can use all the powerful energy that this color provides.
plants & herbs
Apples – The apple has many practical magickal uses and is probably the most common magick ingredient since the “beginning” of witchcraft. This practical ingredient is perfect for practical Taurus. Exposing the sacred pentagram in the center of each apple can boost any spells or offerings.
Marshmallow – The root of this herb is great for cleansing and casting a veil of protection where it is burned. All parts of this plant can be used for medicinal purposes too!
Violet – Use this Venus-attributed flower this moon cycle to bring a little luck in your life.
Sage – Just as salt is the ultimate crystal purifier, sage is the ultimate herbal purifier. It’s also an acceptable “wildcard” replacement for any ingredient you don’t have when working a spell.
Amber – Just as Taurus is lowkey luxe, this sign is also a lowkey homebody. To fill your space with a sense of comfort and happiness burn some of this incense.
Wait! There’s More! A New Moon Freebie
I don’t have a moon ritual for y’all this month as I haven’t had the time between work, family, and sickness. But I did make something for you! One of my most popular posts is about Moon Madness and the magick of Blue Moons and Lunar Eclipses, so I made it into a handy PDF for your grimoire or Book of Shadows! You can download it in the shop or by clickin’ here. The last section contains the full moons of the year and their common names (pink moon, cold moon, etc.) but there is also space to make note of your own. I know that North America’s full moon names are based on Native American tradition, but I am so curious to see how it differs around the world. Do you have different names for full moons where you are from?
